Why Jameson Williams is the Key to Another Title Run for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

To wrap up the College Football 2021 Alabama regular season, Alabama finds itself the #1 seed heading into the CFP semifinals, once again. Since the birth of the CFP in 2014, Alabama has been the No. 1 seed in the Playoff five times. Granted, it helps when you have the arguable “best at that position” for the following:

  • Nick Saban – Head Coach (Best CFB coach ever, btw)
  • Bryce Young – Heisman Trophy Winner
  • Will Anderson – Best Defensive player
  • Jameson Williams – Best WR

While this is just surface level, let’s dive into Jameson Williams to see how he has impacted the Crimson Tide’s passing game this year. Remember the LSU game? Alabama ran the ball 26 times for a grand total of 6 yards. How about the Auburn game? They snuck by the Tigers, after Jameson Williams was ejected for a targeting call in the first half. Then we saw the Alabama’s offense struggle, and how much they have depended on William’s explosiveness this year.

Point is, Alabama’s offense feels one-dimensional at times, the offensive line was been shaky, and they don’t have other legit playmakers other than Williams. Metchie is nice, but you cannot compare him to Williams. You can argue, Williams is the reason why Alabama finds itself in its current position. Honest question, how many wins does Alabama have this year if Jameson Williams doesn’t transfer to Alabama?

Since we were looking at the bad, we’ll look at the good as well. Against Georgia, which was supposed to be a generational type of defense, Williams caught 7 passes for 184 yards and two TDs. I’m pretty sure everyone noticed this, but that’s really good. Nick Saban and Bryce Young have Chris Olave and Ohio State to thank for this. After the conclusion of the 2020 season, Olave’s decision to come back was deemed surprising. In an already crowded WR room and a very successful collegiate career, Olave decides to return to Columbus. Combine that with Garret Wilson, and the upcoming star Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Williams was not going to see the field as often as he should, and would probably not be a starter for Ohio State.

I am very excited to see this matchup against Cincinnati, who has two All-American corners in Coby Bryant and “Sauce” Gardner. With the injury to Metchie, Cincinnati can key in on Williams, but if he is able to explode for another huge game, he might solidify himself as one of the most successful players to find a new home in the transfer portal joining the names of guys like Joe Burrow and Justin Fields.

So what has Jameson Williams done? Took his talents south to play for the GOAT CFB coach, catch passes from the 2021 Heisman Trophy Winner, turn himself into a high draft pick, and provided a necessary spark for the best program in College Football. Now let’s see how he can do in the CFP.
